Whether near or far, the St. Camillus Special Olympics members know how to have a good time. Last weekend, 17 athletes and their families had the opportunity to take part in their annual trip to Windham Mountain for some relaxation and activities.
They arrived at Christman’s Windham House on Friday, August 7, starting out with a day at the pool, pizza and a bonfire. On Saturday, half of the group went to Zoom Flume Water Park, while the other half played mini golf and arcade games in Windham, followed by a regroup at the pool and a dinner and performance by a rock and roll/oldies band, leaving them dancing into the night.
As the property sits on a golf course, on Sunday, the athletes got some golf lessons on the driving range and spent the day teeing off against a beautiful backdrop of the Wyndham Mountain range.
The trip was made possible by donations through the John Rochford Fishing trip, a Rogers Pub raffle, the Rockaway Track Club and World Tour Bocce. “We are indebted to our benefactors who support us every year to provide this nice weekend of relaxation for the parents and activities for the athletes, all because of their generosity,” Special Olympics organizer Joe Featherston said.
