New York State Senator Steve Chan has officially endorsed Colonel (Ret.) Thomas P. Sullivan for the New York State Assembly District 23.
Senator Chan, a former NYPD sergeant said, “10-85 – additional support is needed in Albany.” Chan continued, stating “As a former NYPD sergeant and a State Senator, I know the importance of having competent public safety minded partners in government. We need a leader like Army Colonel (Ret.) Tom Sullivan in the Assembly. Tom is someone who understands public safety; his father was a NYPD Detective, and his brothers include a Deputy Director of the Secret Service, an Inspector with the Port Authority Police Department, and an NYPD officer. He will stand with the men and women of the NYPD. I am proud to fully endorse Tom Sullivan for State Assembly”
Sullivan thanked the Senator for his support, saying: “Like Senator Chan, law enforcement isn’t just important to me, it’s personal. I know just how dangerous and demanding police work can be, and I know our city and state can do more to support our officers. I look forward to working with Senator Chan in Albany to support our law enforcement officers and create safer communities.”
Senator Chan represents parts of southwestern Brooklyn. Chan’s victory in 2024 marked the end of the Democratic supermajority in the New York State Senate and highlighted the political shift in southern Brooklyn and Queens toward the Republican Party. Assembly District 23 is considered one of the most highly competitive races in the Assembly and may help determine whether Democrats maintain their supermajority in the New York State Assembly.
