The BCAC Summer Basketball Shootout has come a long way over the last decade. Approximately 4,000 boys and girls have participated in league play, including some who started in the Tykes division and stayed all the way through the Senior division.
Last week, the BCAC crowned champions in five divisions after spirited playoff games at Broad Channel Park Playground and in the St. Camillus gym.
The Rascal Boys winner is Team Gray coached by Rah and Lorenzo. In an amazing, high-scoring game, the 9- and 10-year-olds scored on both ends of the court, putting up over 100 points combined. The game was extremely close until mid-fourth quarter when Team Gray pulled away for the 56-48 win over Coach Brian’s Royal Blue team. Kole Falloon was named MVP for the champions. Brian Kelly was MVP for the runners up.
The Rascal Girls championship game was between the undefeated Team Pink (6-0) coached by Karen Allen and Team Blue (3-3) coached by Scott Battaglia. Team Pink came out strong with a commanding 8-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Team Blue wouldn’t go down without a fight and would come back to put some points on the board throughout the game. However, Team Pink came out on top, 25-10, showing why they led the division all year. Team Pink had many leaders throughout the season. Their top three scorers for the summer were Aubrey Allen, Gabriella Kirk, and Charlotte Molloy. Aubrey Allen was named MVP of the Championship game, being the high scorer with 13 points. The trophy was named in honor of Michelle Green, a pioneer of the league, who we unfortunately lost too soon.
To close out the Junior Boys season, Team Royal Blue, coached by James Fleming and Chris Allen, capped off their undefeated season with a championship victory over the Yellow Team, coached by Mike O’Neill. Royal Blue was led by standout performances from Jeremy Lee and George Vaccaro, who each scored 19 points. Jeremy Lee was also named the recipient of the Jack Palmese MVP Award for his outstanding performance. For the Yellow Team, Mikey O’Neill earned the MVP honor after a strong performance, finishing with 14 points. Congratulations to both teams on a great game and to Royal Blue on an incredible undefeated season.
In the Junior Girls division, Team Gray, coached by Gina, defeated Team Blue, coached by Scott and Paul. The girls played extremely well with Team Gray pulling ahead early and defeating a tough Team Blue, who unfortunately was missing one of their top players. The MVP went to Ella who led all scorers with 18 points. It was a great season for all the girls’ divisions. BCAC is looking forward to expanding the girls’ divisions for the 2027 Shamrock Shootout Season.
In the Senior Boys championship, Team Orange coached by Mike and Richie defeated Team Blue coached by George and Matt. Both teams played hard until the end when Team Orange pulled out the win in the St. Camillus gym. MVP of the game went to Richie Larkin. The MVP for the runner-up Team Blue went to Declan Chavanne. It was a great Senior Boys season with many close games throughout the spring.
The league couldn’t be successful without the support of the BCAC and many league coordinators, coaches, administrators and referees. BCAC also has the outstanding support of all its sponsors who support the league financially.
Unfortunately, BCAC lost beloved leaders Michelle Green and Jack Palmese during the off season. The league honored them with banners and MVP trophies named in their memories. For more photos, go to www.rockawaytimes.com/bcac-report
