Patriot’s Parade

On Friday, July 3 at 8:15 a.m., dress in your best red, white and blue and march from the boardwalk at Beach 126th St. to Beach 129th St. Hosted by the Rockaway Republican Club but open to all regardless of party.

Jamaica Bay Book Club

On Friday, July 3 at 2 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for book club! Read selections of nature-themed literature and hold respectful discussions. Please bring your thoughts and questions.

 

Kayaking for Beginners at Riis Landing

On Saturday, July 4 at 1 p.m., head to Riis Landing across from Fort Tilden for kayaking for beginners.  Open to ages 6 and up with an adult. Dress to get wet, wear shoes that will not fall off, and bring water, sunscreen, and a snack. Kayaks, lifejackets, paddles and instructions provided.

 

Firecracker Half Marathon & 5K

On Sunday, July 5, the Rockaway Track Club is hosting its Firecracker Half Marathon and 5K at Beach 94th St. Bib and t-shirt pickup and day of registration starting at 6:30 a.m. Races start on the boardwalk at 8 a.m. Pre-register at www.rockawaytc.org

 

Dune Restoration

On Monday, July 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., head to Beach 44th and the boardwalk to join RISE in planting the dunes. Help with invasive plant removal, beach cleanup, plantings, watering, and other tasks. Register at www.riserockaway.org/rise/events/

 

Rockaway Refresh Beach Cleanup

On Monday, July 6 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to Beach 67th or Beach 98th St. and the boardwalk to join JBRPC for a beach cleanup. Sign a waiver at www.jbrpc.org/events

 

Native Plant Nursery Planting

On Monday, July 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., head to the RISE Native Plant Nursery (190 Beach 44th St.) to help RISE plant trees, shrubs, and grasses. Register at www.riserockaway.org/rise/events/

 

FPMF Rockaway Beach

Ball

On Thursday, July 9 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., head to The Rockaway Hotel (108-10 Rockaway Beach Dr.) for the Frances Pope Memorial Foundation’s Rockaway Beach Ball. Enjoy live music by Hell or High Water, dancing, cocktails, and tasty food. Proceeds benefit children battling cancer. Tickets at francespopefoundation.org

 

Rockaway Warrior Weekend Parade

On Thursday, July 9 at around 6:30 p.m., line Rockaway Beach Blvd. from Beach 149th to Memorial Circle as the Hope for the Warriors will come to town for Rockaway Warrior Weekend.

 

Summer Thrift Sale

On Saturday, July 11 at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., head to First Congregational Church (320 Beach 94th St.) for a summer thrift sale. New items with tags and used clothing for $2, houseware, kitchenware, purses, shoes, children’s items, seasonal items, beach chairs, coolers, electronics, vintage and collectibles and more. Proceeds go to the church! Parking in lot.

 

Kayaking for Beginners

On Saturdays and Sundays at 9:30 a.m., head to the Floyd Bennett Field Sea Plane Ramp for a free kayaking program for beginners. Open to ages 6 and up with an adult. Dress to get wet. Kayaks, personal floatation devices and instruction provided.

 

Yoga/Human Movement

On Sundays and Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m., head to the beach at Beach 102nd Street to join Kevin Campbell for yoga. Call 347-804-2559 for more info.

 

Body Weight Circuit

Training

On Tuesdays at 7 p.m., head to the Sorrentino Recreation Center (18-48 Cornaga Ave.) for a free body weight circuit training class with Edith.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head the Beach 60th boardwalk to join Gloria for Cardio Punch, a total body workout for all levels. Punch to the rhythms of motivating music.
