On Thursday, August 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., head to Caracas on Beach 106th for a casual meetup with the Rockaway Beach Civic Association.

Queens Jazz Trail: Wycliffe Gordon

On Thursday, August 6 at 7 p.m., head to the Beach 94th Amphitheater to hear the music of internationally acclaimed trombonist, composer, and educator Wycliffe Gordon. Bring a chair or blanket.

 

East Pond Shoreline Cleanup

On Saturday, August 8 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join JBRPC, NPS and Sadhana for a shoreline cleanup at the East Pond.  Gloves, bags, and tools provided. Wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Bring water and sunscreen. Canceled if there’s heavy rain or lightning.

 

Bella’s Voice Bookbag Giveaway

On Saturday, August 8 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., head to O’Donohue Park on Beach 17th for a bookbag and school supply giveaway in memory of Bella. While supplies last.

 

Garden Party: Jamaica Bay Pollinator Garden Volunteer Day

On Sunday, August 9 at 10 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center to learn about the pollinator garden! Learn about becoming a recurring volunteer gardener, plant native species and perform essential maintenance. All tools and supplies provided. Volunteers must sign NPS volunteer form on-site. All volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian.

 

Rockaway Refresh Beach Cleanup

On Monday, August 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to Beach 98th St. and the boardwalk to join JBRPC for Refresh Yoga, a short session of gentle, grounding movement, and a beach cleanup. Sign a waiver at www.jbrpc.org/events

 

Jamaica Bay Sunset Walk

On Monday, August 10 at 7 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join a park ranger on a peaceful walk and watch for wildlife while you enjoy a Jamaica Bay sunset and full moon.

 

Rockaway/ Nassau County Bayside Plan Workshop

On Tuesday, August 11 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.)  to attend a workshop on updated information and findings for the Rockaway/Nassau County Bayside Plan. Register by going to www.riserockaway.org, and clicking on “Events.” You will see the concepts and priorities that came out of stakeholder input and be able to give feedback before the final plan is released.

 

Kayaking for Beginners

On Saturdays and Sundays at 9:30 a.m., head to the Floyd Bennett Field Sea Plane Ramp for a free kayaking program for beginners. Open to ages 6 and up with an adult. Dress to get wet. Kayaks, personal floatation devices and instruction provided.

Kids in Motion: Beach 59th Playground

On Tuesdys through Sundays, head to Beach 59th Street Playground near the boardwalk for a day of activities for children including sports, games, fitness demos, and more! Must be accompanied by a guardian.

 

Zumba Under the Stars

On Tuesdays at O’Donohue Park on Beach 17th Street and Thursdays at the Beach 108th Hockey Rink at 7 p.m., enjoy a Latin dance fitness class led by Lisa G. Through Aug. 27.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head the Beach 60th boardwalk to join Gloria for Cardio Punch, to punch to the rhythms of motivating music.
