A massive water rescue response on Sunday, July 26 ended happily as a missing six-year-old girl was reunited with her family.
On Sunday afternoon, a frantic mother reported her little girl missing from around Beach 119th Street, alerted lifeguards and called 911. What commenced was a massive group effort between groups of lifeguards forming chains and sweeping the ocean floor, drones, FDNY and NYPD boats and NYPD helicopters reporting to the scene to scan the surface of the water. While the search for the girl in a yellow and pink bathing suit was ongoing, lifeguards has called everyone out of the water.

Within an hour, the search ended with some exhausted lifeguards, but some good news as the little girl was located around Beach 104th Street on the beach and was reunited with her mother.
Among the chaos of that search, a 27-year-old man was also reported possibly missing in the water, but lifeguards reported that he was rescued before the search for the little girl began.

Even in the case of a false alarm, our first responders and lifeguards on duty are always at the ready! Great work by all.
